چکیده

We consider a sequence, of random length M , of independent, continuous observations Xi, 1 ≤ i ≤ M,whereM is geometric,X1 has cumulative distribution function (CDF)G, andXi, i ≥ 2, have CDF F . LetN be the number of upper records and letRn, n ≥ 1, be thenth record value. We show thatN is independent ofF if and only ifG(x) = G0(F (x)) for some CDF G0, and that if E(|X2|) is finite then so is E(|Rn|), n ≥ 2, whenever N ≥ n or N = n. We prove that the distribution of N , along with appropriately chosen subsequences of E(Rn), characterize F and G and, along with subsequences of E(Rn − Rn−1), characterize F and G up to a common location shift. We discuss some applications to the identification of the wage offer distribution in job search models.

Characterizations Using Entropies of Records in a Geometric Random Record Model

Suppose that a geometrically distributed number of observations are available from an absolutely continuous distribution function $F$, within this set of observations denote the random number of records by $M$. This is called geometric random record model. In this paper, characterizations of $F$ are provided in terms of the subsequences entropies of records conditional on events ${M geq n}$ or ...

On Moments of the Concomitants of Classic Record Values and Nonparametric Upper Bounds for the Mean under the Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern Model

In a sequence of random variables, record values are observations that exceed or fall below the current extreme value. Now consider a sequence of pairwise random variables  {(Xi,Yi), i>=1}, when the experimenter is interested in studying just thesequence of records of the first component, the second component associated with a record value of the first one is termed the concomitant of that ...

Record Range of Uniform Distribution

We consider a sequence of independent and identicaly distributed (iid) random variables with absolutely continuous distribution function F(x) and probability density function (pdf) f(x). Let Rnl be the largest observation after observing nth record and R(ns) be the smallest observation after observing the nth record. Then we say Wnr = Rnl− R(ns), n > 1, as the nth record range. We will c...
